At Movie of the Day ("we", "us", or "our"), ensuring the privacy of our visitors, app users, and browser extension users is our utmost priority. This Privacy Policy documents the types of information collected and recorded by Movie of the Day (via our website, mobile application, and browser extensions) and how we utilize it.

1. Information We Collect

We collect limited, non-personally identifiable information (non-PII) to deliver and personalize your daily movie experience:

  • Device & Connection Data: Browser types, operating system, IP address, timezone, and screen dimensions.
  • Interaction & Analytics: Movie card swiping preferences (skips, watchlist additions), page load times, session durations, and clicked streaming links.
  • Push Notifications Token: For mobile app users, we collect an anonymous Expo push token to deliver the daily "Movie of the Day" notification alerts.
  • Cookies & Storage: We use browser cookies and local storage (e.g. AsyncStorage in the mobile app, LocalStorage on the web, and extension storage in browser extensions) to retain your watchlist, selected streaming provider filters, daily trivia streaks, and system theme choice.
  • Comments & Contributions: Any textual feedback submitted to the Movie of the Day Community Feed. These comments are linked to an anonymous client-side generated UUID to let you manage your contributions. We also store local settings representing blocked users to filter your content feed.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected details in various ways to operate and improve the service, including to:

  • Deliver, update, and maintain the daily movie database.
  • Personalize movie discovery recommendations based on your selected streaming providers.
  • Understand and analyze usage statistics to improve layouts, responsiveness, and performance.
  • Evaluate daily trivia game completion and verify leaderboard statistics.
  • Deliver daily notification alerts regarding the movie of the day (opt-in only).

3. Data Deletion & Account Purging (Compliance)

In compliance with Apple App Store guidelines and Google Play developer requirements, we provide complete, self-serve data control options. You do not need to register a standard email-based account to use our services; all configurations are linked to an anonymous local identifier (UUID).

How to Delete Your Data:

  • In the Mobile App:Navigate to the Settings Screen (gear icon) and tap the red "Delete My Data / Account" button. This instantly purges your local storage settings and wipes your watchlist configuration, push notification token, and database entries on Firestore.
  • In Browser Extensions:Right-click the Movie of the Day extension icon, select "Remove from Chrome/Browser", or clear the extension storage details in your browser settings.
  • On the Website & Comments:You can delete individual comments you posted by clicking the trash icon next to your comments inside the Community Feed sidebar.
  • Manual Purging Requests:If you wish to request a manual database wipe of any traces associated with your IP address or local anonymous ID, please contact our privacy compliance team directly at support@themovieoftheday.com. We process all request compliance actions within 48 hours.

4. Google AdSense & Third-Party Network Cookies

We may display programmatic advertisements served by Google AdSense and third-party vendors. Google utilizes DART cookies to serve ads to our platform users based upon their previous visits to www.themovieoftheday.com and other websites across the internet. You can choose to opt-out or decline the use of DART cookies by visiting the Google ad and content network Privacy Policy at the following URL: https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads

5. Browser Extension Permissions & Security

Our browser extensions require permissions such as storage to retain local states and watchlist records. The extension does not intercept, log, or track browser history outside of direct interactions with the extension popup. No user data is ever sold or shared with external analytics networks.

6. User-Generated Content (UGC) Policy & Moderation

Our platform includes interactive community feeds where users can submit comment contributions. To maintain a safe and respectful environment, we enforce strict guidelines against obscene, pornographic, offensive, or defamatory content.

We provide self-serve mechanisms for you to immediately report/flag any objectionable content or block abusive users. Flagged content is queued for human review and will be moderated within 24 hours. Blocking a user immediately filters out their comments from your view.

By downloading our mobile app, using our website, or installing our browser extensions, you hereby consent to our Privacy Policy and agree to our Terms and Conditions.
